Today i learned something at school.. Believe it or not

Flemish Primitives are the bomb. Everybody is looking at the renaissance in Italy but we forget that the renaissance took place in our Netherlands to. The Flemish (Belgian) primitives are painted with oil paint to create perfect details. While giotto, michelangelo and all the others of the southern renaissance were using and looking at line-perspective, old statues and anatomy of the classic ages. We were just looking and looking to see the finest details. And just paint every detail. Thats why when you see the paintings of Jan van Eyck (arnolini and his bride & adam and eve) you cant imagen the people walking trough the room because the perspective is not perfect. In the Italian works you can imagen walking trough the rooms. But that doesnt make the Flemish Paintings less beautful Look at some Flamish primitves and some renaissance works.

First the Flemish

Van Eyck - The Arnolfini Portrait

Van Eyck - The Ghent Altarpiece: The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb

And now the Italian

Da Vinci - Il Cenacolo of L'Ultima Cena

Rafael - The Entombment

Chez Moune

I almost forgot, this summer i went to Paris with one of my best female friends. We would stay in a hotel in Clichy but by the due of propably some fungus in our room we were moved to another hotel, for free. This hotel was in the middle of Pigalle: the red light district of Paris, Moulin Rouge was around the corner.. We went to a club in our street what became to be the most high class and populair/undergroundish club of Paris. Chez Moune used to be the first lesbian bar in the world and was opened in the early years of the 20th century. The beautiful jugendstil architecture and design give the Chez Moune of these days its one of a kind character.
It's just as if you are back in the old days when being prostitute was a respected job and not just some east-european traded women's thing. yeah right. But only now the Parisian Mafia and the dancing women from the 20th century are changed into weird dancing french people that like to show off their sexual moves..
